AAM Sponsors Auto STEAM

What do you get when you combine fast remote control cars, a steep skateboard ramp and excited local middle and high-school students? An amped up AAM lesson on vehicle architectures.

AAM was both a sponsor and exhibitor at the first Auto STEAM Day, an event held to teach students about careers in automotive design, robotics, manufacturing and technology. Auto STEAM, which stands for automotive, science, technology, engineering, art, math and manufacturing, is the brainchild of the Center for Advanced Automotive Technology and Macomb Community College.

During the event, which was held over two days at MCC's South Campus in Warren, MI, automakers and suppliers displayed exhibits to teach participating students about the latest trends in automotive design and technology. Additionally, GM, FCA and Ford displayed vehicles and allowed students to sit behind the wheel and talk to vehicle designers and engineers.

For its display, AAM used racing remote control vehicles and a skateboard ramp to show students the difference between frontwheel drive, rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. During the fun presentation, AAM’s Advanced Development team explained AAM’s technology and how critical it is to customers.

“It was amazing to see how engaged the students were with our presentation,” said Sean Conway, director customer engagement and competitive assessment. “After the hill climbing and drag racing experiments were complete, these students all had a basic understanding of different vehicle architectures. More importantly, they now know how instrumental AAM is to the automotive industry and to DELIVERING POWER. I think we may have even connected with a few future AAM associates.”
